“We pledge with pride, to provide quality recreation programs, park facilities and a variety of enrichment opportunities with a professional standard of excellence, that enhances the quality of life for all citizens and visitors within our community.” - Mission Statement The Department is comprised of four divisions (Administration, Parks & Public Lands, Recreation, and Event Venues), but all work together for the Department’s ultimate goal: quality recreation and enrichment opportunities. The Department provides a full complement of services, ranging from active and passive parks to leagues to rentals.
The Administration division is the superglue holding everything else together: it oversees most internal operations so that the other departments can do their thing. Which, in the case of the Parks & Public Lands division, is support and management of 450+ acres of land dedicated to purposes from recreation (such as Lakefront Park) to preservation (Shingle Hill Regional Park). The Recreation and Leisure Services division monitors various parks and helps coordinate recreation efforts (though not events). Overseeing events is the Events and Venues division, which plans and coordinates year-round community events and festivals: the Martin Luther King Jr. parade and festival, the July 4th celebration, Viva Osceola, and the Festival of Lights Parade are but a few. The Events and Venues division also manages programs, events, and rentals at specific locations: one of these is the Kissimee Civic Center, which has everything from professional boxing to an event hosting the United States’ very own President. The Department overall enhances every aspect of recreation and self-enhancement.
